This beautiful 'city within the city' dates back to the 1300's and should not be missed, if only because it's just minutes away from about everywhere in the center!
The Beguinage basically started as a religious community of unmarried women dedicated to caring for the sick. Nowadays its function has somewhat changed, but religion still plays an important role.
